ABOUT US
Osamu Honjo, AIFD
Born April 24, 1951. Graduated from National Technical College, Chiba, Japan. Seven years of study at the Ohara School of Ikebana. Holds a 3rd-degree master teacher certification. (1971-1978). In 1979 he moved to Southern California. While working at one of the most prominent flower shop in the area, he has won numerous awards in regional and national level competitions, including prestigious
Sylvia cup (Presented by Society of American Florists – 1984),
grand prize at Selo National Silk Flower Competition (1985),
US finalist at the FTD World Cup Competition (1988).
He owned and ran Floral Decor by Osamu in Glendale, California, from 1985 through 1996. In his nearly 50 years of floral design experience, Osamu has been in design panels or conducted design classes in many cities of the United States and Canada, as well as in other countries such as Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, and Taiwan. His designs were seen in major motion pictures and TV shows as well as multi-page layouts for floral publications such as FTD Florist, FTD Trends Magazine, FTD Selection Guide, Teleflora’s Flowers & Design with Flowers, etc.
He now owns and operates Botanical Image Creation, Inc., a consulting business for the silk flower industry, and the International Floral Academy of Los Angeles, both in California, and BIC, Inc., in Japan. He is a principal of the Mei Chia Floral Design school in Taiwan.
He belongs to the Ikebana International Los Angeles Branch and the American Institute of Floral Designers as a life member.
